SOUTHERN COMFORT

BET/Arabesque

July 2004

Following the death of her cherished mother figure, jewelry designer Rachel Givens faces many surprises: the existence of her matriarch's son, a past full of secrets, and the promise of true love.

Southern Comfort/BET/Arabesque 2004:

The setting for this book, Highland Beach, Maryland, was suggested by my editor. I used the isolated black community to write about Lucas Scott learning to forgive the past, and Rachel Givens embracing it.  The passing of Julia Winters, who plays an integral part in both their lives, brings Lucas and Rachel together.  Her death also  leaves them a legacy that will fulfill both their dreams.

I always enjoy hearing from readers who tells me how my stories affect them, or how they’ve learned something new because of the characters, or themes.  They can lose themselves in the story, the romance, the adventure.  But it’s exciting to be told that they got a little extra as well.  That’s a great compliment.
