Southern Comfort/BET/Arabesque 2004:
The setting for this book, Highland Beach, Maryland, was suggested by
my editor. I used the isolated black community to write about Lucas Scott learning to forgive the past, and Rachel Givens embracing it. The
passing of Julia Winters, who plays an integral part in both their lives, brings Lucas and Rachel together. Her death also leaves them a
legacy that will fulfill both their dreams.
I always enjoy hearing from readers who tells me how my stories affect
them, or how they’ve learned something new because of the characters, or themes. They can lose themselves in the story, the romance, the
adventure. But it’s exciting to be told that they got a little extra as well. That’s a great compliment.
